Brigham Young's Donuts1 | qt. | buttermilk — or qt milk with 4 Tbsp. vinegar stirred into it | 2 1/2 | c. | sugar | 4 | | eggs | 6 | Tbsp. | butter or margarine | 3 | tsp. | nutmeg | 1 | tsp. | baking soda | 1/2 | tsp. | baking powder | 1 | tsp. | salt | 1 | tsp. | cinnamon | | | flour to make soft dough | | | paper bag with sugar (powdered? ... brown?) to shake final product in — type of final topping is up to you. |
1. | Combine ingredients (except the paper bag of sugar); knead in enough flour to make dough soft but not sticky. | 2. | Roll about 1/2" thick. | 3. | Cut doughnuts. | 4. | Fry in deep fat. | 5. | Cool slightly. | 6. | Shake doughnuts 3 or 4 at a time in a brown paper bag of sugar. |
