Brigham Young's Donuts


1qt.buttermilk — or qt milk with 4 Tbsp. vinegar stirred into it
2 1/2c.sugar
4eggs
6Tbsp.butter or margarine
3tsp.nutmeg
1tsp.baking soda
1/2tsp.baking powder
1tsp.salt
1tsp.cinnamon
flour to make soft dough
paper bag with sugar (powdered? ... brown?) to shake final product in — type of final topping is up to you.

1.Combine ingredients (except the paper bag of sugar); knead in enough flour to make dough soft but not sticky.
2.Roll about 1/2" thick.
3.Cut doughnuts.
4.Fry in deep fat.
5.Cool slightly.
6.Shake doughnuts 3 or 4 at a time in a brown paper bag of sugar.
