Synopsis: A tough cop is given his most difficult assignment ever: to masquerade as a kindergarten teacher in order to find a drug dealer.

Reaction: It's not Schwarzenegger's finest movie, but it's fun to see the fish-out-of-water elements of the giant, tough cop in charge of a class of kindergarteners.

Random Trivia For This Title:

  • Cameo - Jason Reitman: Ivan Reitman's son has a cameo as the boy making out with the girl that Kimble interrupts during the real fire drill.
  • Miko Hughes' character name, Joseph Cousins, is the real name of one of the boys who plays young Dominic (he was played by twins Joseph Cousins and Christian Cousins).
  • The character of Emma (Sarah Rose Karr) is named after director Ivan Reitman's own daughter, Emma.
  • Arnold Schwarzenegger had a few conditions before accepting the role of John Kimble; he wanted Ivan Reitman to direct the film, he wanted a physical fitness theme, and he and Reitman wanted broken homes, child abuse and family life written into the script.
  • Owning a pet ferret, like Kimble does, is illegal in California - a ban which former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger supported.
  • Bill Murray and Patrick Swayze were originally offered the role of John Kimble. Danny DeVito was also considered, but was not given the part due to his height.
  • The poem that Kimble reads to the children before nap time is "Spring Morning" from A.A. Milne's book When We Were Very Young, with illustrations by [?] Ernest Shepard.
  • Arnold Schwarzenegger worked with Pamela Reed again in the movie Junior. Reed portrayed a pregnant woman with a big appetite, quite similar to her character in this movie.
  • The script for Kindergarten Cop appealed to Arnold Schwarzenegger after he became a father in 1989.
  • Kimble swears in German as he carries his colleague into the house. ("Das macht mich stinksauer! Jetzt bin ich sauer!", which means "That makes me pissed as hell! Now I am pissed!").
  • In most of his films Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a character of Anglo-Irish descent (Quaid, Tasker, Gibson, Brewer, Trench, Owens, etc.) while speaking with his trademark Austrian accent. This movie contains a rare occasion where the accent is acknowledged and explained within the story rather than simply ignored.
  • Kindergarten Cop was postponed until Christmas, 1990 because Ivan Reitman was still working on Ghostbusters II for Christmas, 1989.
  • Odette Annable's film debut; she was five years old.
  • Dominic has [The Real Ghost Busters] sheets. Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II were directed by Ivan Reitman.
