Trivia that mentions this person:
Star Trek - Season 2 [1967]
  • After viewing the popularity of characters such as Robin on the [Batman] series and shows like [The Monkees], the producers decided to introduce Ensign Pavel Chekov in the second season in order to attract more teenage viewers, especially girls, to the show. Walter Koenig was selected due to his resemblance to [?] Davy Jones.
Star Trek: The Animated Series [1973]
  • Originally the show was not going to include Nichelle Nichols, George Takei, and Walter Koenig due to budget considerations. However, when Leonard Nimoy learned about this, he refused to join the cast unless his friends were included. Rather than lose the most popular cast member, Filmation agreed to sign on Nichols and Takei. While Koenig could not be included because of the budget and, as a result, is the only regular cast member from the earlier series to never make an appearance, he did, however, write one episode: {The Infinite Vulcan}.
    Star Trek: Remastered - Season 2 [2008]
  • After viewing the popularity of characters such as Robin on the [Batman] series and shows like [The Monkees], the producers decided to introduce Ensign Pavel Chekov in the second season in order to attract more teenage viewers, especially girls, to the show. Walter Koenig was selected due to his resemblance to [?] Davy Jones.
    Star Trek Into Darkness [2013]
  • There is an inside joke with Chekov being asked to put on a red shirt by Kirk, and Chekov's less than enthusiastic reaction. In a famous interview, Walter Koenig stated that being a part of Star Trek all of these years was fantastic, as long as you didn't wear a red shirt, since most of those who wore the red shirts in [TOS] were almost always killed.
  • Chekov's temporary posting to Chief Engineer is based on a long running backstory and fan joke. When he was recognized in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan from a supposed encounter in [Star Trek]: {Space Seed}, it was explained Chekov was assigned in security department. During the Space Seed incident, Chekov attempted to seal off engineering (as Walter Koenig had not yet joined the cast). Kirk was so impressed by his bravery, he moved him to bridge navigation. This also explained why Chekov in the first three films was later bridge weapons and tactical officer.
