The Hunt For Red October [1990]
  • Kevin Costner was originally cast as Jack Ryan.
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves [1991]
  • The scene where Azeem first shows Robin his telescope is similar to a scene in Dances with Wolves, where Dunbar (Kevin Costner) hands a telescope to Kicking Bird.
    Super Mario Bros. [1993]
  • Bob Hoskins replaced originally cast Danny DeVito. Dustin Hoffman expressed interest in the role because his children were fans of the game while Kevin Costner turn down the offer to play as King Koopa.
    Watchmen [2009]
  • Casting rumors over the years included Sigourney Weaver (Sally Jupiter); John Hurt, Robin Williams, [?] Doug Hutchison, Daniel Craig, Simon Pegg, [?] Glen Hansard (Rorschach); Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dolph Lundgren (Dr. Manhattan); Tommy Lee Jones, Gary Busey, Ron Perlman, Thomas Jane (Comedian); Richard Gere, Kevin Costner, John Cusack, Joaquin Phoenix (Nite Owl); Nathan Fillion (either Comedian or Nite Owl); Jamie Lee Curtis, [?] Hilary Swank, Jessica Biel, Hilary Duff (Silk Spectre); Tom Cruise, Jude Law (Ozymandias). Man of Steel [2013]
  • The final confrontation between Superman and General Zod was filmed in Chicago's Union Station. At the end of the fight, Lois Lane runs down the station's long staircase. This same staircase was the scene of the final gunfight in The Untouchables (1987), starring Kevin Costner, who plays Pa Kent.
Robin Hood: Men in Tights [1993]
  • The gag about Robin being able to speak with an English accent is a reference to Kevin Costner's performance in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Unfortunately viewers who saw both movies in a dubbed version couldn't get this gag. For the German dubbed version the gag was changed to: "because I - unlike some other Robin Hood - do not cost the producers 5 million". The German word "kosten" (cost) was also pronounced to sound a little bit like Costner. In the French (France) and Italian (Italy) dubbed versions, it is translated as, "Because unlike other Robin Hoods, I do not dance with the wolves", referring to another Kevin Costner movie Dances with Wolves. In Quebec, the translation becomes "Because unlike other Robin Hoods, I accept to wear tights," which refers to the fact that Costner didn't wear tights in the 1991 movie. In the Hungarian version, he says "Because unlike Kevin Costner, I have a shapely bottom," a reference to the infamous fact that Costner used a body double in the nude scene.
    Jumanji [1995]
  • Tom Hanks, Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Kevin Costner, Sean Connery, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Michael Keaton, Bill Paxton and Arnold Schwarzenegger were all considered for the role of Alan Parrish. Tom Hanks' son Colin Hanks appears in the sequel as an adult Alex Vreeke in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017).
    Ice Age [2002]
  • Johnny Depp, Pierce Brosnan, Kevin Kline, Robert De Niro, Albert Brooks, Nicolas Cage, Sylvester Stallone, Kevin Costner, Keith David, Bruce Willis, Jeff Bridges, Jim Belushi, Michael Keaton & Val Kilmer were all considered for the role of Manfred before Ray Romano was cast.
