Edit cast list for:
The Muppet Show: Season 3 (1978)?
Trivia:
Many guest stars would be asked about their favorite Muppet and be given scenes with them. Miss Piggy was reportedly the most requested. Animal was a close second. In the Roman Gladiator sketch, `~10405~` faces off with a lion. The theme song of Stallone's later film @%Rocky III%@ which he plays Italian-American boxing champion Rocky Balboa is @#Eye of the Tiger#@ by Survivor. Stallone fighting a lion in that sketch, foreshadows that song in the film. During the course of the show, `~4721~` wrote out a list of dream guests, and urged the writers and puppeteers to do the same. Henson's list included `~Bil Baird~`, `~2984~`, `~Burr Tillstrom~`, `~17201~`, `~Mae West~`, `~7996~`, `~Princess Anne~`, `~8521~`, and `~Katharine Hepburn~`. The Muppet performers and writing staff list included `~4826~`, `~7901~`, `~Salvador Dalí~`, `~1558~`, `~16923~`, `~Frank Zappa~`, `~15508~`, the entire Monty Python troupe, and `~14177~`. Kermit and Waldorf are the only characters to appear in all 120 episodes. The Swedish Chef is the only character to have bare human hands, presumably because of the dexterity needed. English television didn't have commercial interruptions during the programs, so many British telecasts feature scenes and musical numbers (mostly British music hall in nature) not seen in the US until Nickelodeon aired the show for a brief time in the spring and summer of 1994. Nickelodeon - a kids' channel - would edit out another sketch (mostly sketches that Nickelodeon thought shouldn't be seen by their audience) in favor of the usually less-offensive UK sketches. Besides the theme song, very few songs were actually written for the show. Most of the songs came from old comedy albums, vaudeville standards, and British music hall routines. During `~12852~`'s duet with Fozzie, she calls him a "dingbat." This word was popularized by the sitcom @##All in the Family##@, for which Stapleton is best known for playing Edith Bunker. Five pairs of relatives were guest stars on the series. Three married couples made joint appearances: `~1875~` and `~15545~`, `~2191~` and `~15557~`, and `~Robert Shields~` and `~Lorene Yarnell Jansson~`. `~193~` and her father `~8036~` appeared in different episodes. `~15550~` and her younger sister `~Crystal Gayle~` also appeared in different episodes. The song `~13065~` did with Miss Piggy can be found on his @##Whiskey and Lace##@ album. Guest star `~15551~` was a big inspiration for Rowlf the Dog's playing style. Rowlf frequently looks around and smiles while playing, and sometimes has a candelabra on his piano. One of the most persistent stories over the years is about `~15555~`'s T-shirt with Arabic lettering. Supposedly it was discovered that the Arabic lettering translated to "hashish" only after the show was aired. This was untrue. Milligan's T-shirt actually says "Kuwait", a reference to his own television series @##Q9##@, which had been renamed in various versions over the years to @##Q8##@ in one of its incarnations. Kuwait = Q8. Of all the musical numbers they cooked up for the show, the one the producers were most proud of was created from `~15554~`'s request for a meaningful piece, which had the singer singing @#Turn the World Around#@ with puppets made to resemble traditional African tribal masks. `~15554~` also sung it at '`~4721~`''s funeral.
