Trivia:
SPOILER:Is the only film in the Expendables series not to be nominated for (or win) a Razzie Award.:SPOILER In Russian theatrical dub the name of `~17452~` character is just "`~17452~`". SPOILER:`~1158~`, in this film says "Yippie Kai Yay", (a reference to `~1509~`'s role in !~die_hard_1~!~Die Hard~! as John McClane), after he says "I'll be back", when `~1509~` steals his line. Arnold was considered for the role of John McClane in Die Hard along with `~10405~` himself.:SPOILER `~10405~` asked `~17452~` to include a reference to The `~17452~` facts (a popular internet meme) in the screenplay. Norris's wife `~Gena O'Kelly~` suggested him the one with the cobra. ("`~17452~` was bitten by a cobra, and after five days of excruciating pain... the cobra died.") `~10405~` explained that his casting was looking particularly for actors who had not experienced recent hits: "I like using people that had a moment and then maybe have fallen on some hard times and give them another shot. I like those kinds of guys. Someone did it for me and I like to see if I can do it for them." `~17452~` agreed to come out of retirement from acting at the age of 71 in order to appear in this film. The film reveals that Gunnar Jensen earned an advanced degree in chemical engineering, then abandoned his science career to work as bouncer in order to impress a girl. `~8581~` earned a chemistry degree from Washington State University in 1976, a chemical engineering degree from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm in the early 1980s, and a Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Sydney in 1982. Lundgren walked away from a science career to work as bodyguard for his then-girlfriend `~14235~`. While stuck in the mine, Gunnar refers to himself as a "Fulbright Scholar," which Lundgren achieved in real life. `~1583~` and `~6039~` were considered to work with `~1158~` and `~10405~` in this film. Ironically 15 years previously, Travolta and Cage took the roles of Sean Archer and Castor Troy in @%Face/Off%@ which was made and written for Stallone and Schwarzenegger. Gunner Jensen refers to `~17452~`' character Booker as the "Lone Wolf". This is a reference to the `~17452~` movie @%Lone Wolf McQuade%@. While filming an action scene in Bulgaria, an explosion on a rubber boat killed one stuntman and left another in critical condition. Tennis player `~17458~` filmed a cameo for the airport shootout for free. However his scene, which involved him beating down terrorists with his racket, was cut. In September 2011 `~10405~` confirmed that he was in talks with `~6039~` and `~1583~` about roles in the film and that scheduling would be the only obstacle to their involvement. A real railway bridge over the river Osam in Bulgaria was built for the film, and will remain as part of the railway network. `~13922~` was originally cast in !~xpndbls_1~!~The Expendables~! but when the script was re-written, his role was cut out. He later got a call from `~10405~` to be in this movie. The sequel was considered seven months before !~xpndbls_1~!~The Expendables~! was completed and released in theaters. The first movie's plot was revised during filming so that `~8581~`'s character, who was killed in the first draft, could be saved for the sequel. `~1158~` shot his role in 5 days, one week prior to beginning work on @%The Last Stand%@. The fountain pen that Barney Ross pulls out to write on the napkin is a Montegrappa Chaos limited edition pen that `~10405~`, a long time Montegrappa aficionado, helped design. It includes a skull and other symbols inspired by !~xpndbls_1~!~The Expendables~!. This is `~7969~`'s fourth time working with both `~8581~` and `~12795~`. All of `~9069~`'s scenes were filmed in Hong Kong because he was working on another movie at the same time. `~13432~` said he had been offered a role, but was forced to turn it down due to scheduling conflicts with @%Chinese Zodiac%@. In November 2010, `~6899~` was considered for the role of a CIA agent hunting down Church. The role was eventually written out of the script. `~13454~` was offered a role but he declined. Only the third time Schwarzenegger has used the paraphrase, "I'm back". The first was in !~kindercop~!~Kindergarten Cop~! and the second was !~t_3~!~Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines~!. `~15864~` was considered for the role of Maggie. `~12249~` was considered for the role that went to `~13922~`.
