Synopsis:
The support crew serving on one of Starfleet's least important ships, the U.S.S. Cerritos, have to keep up with their duties, often while the ship is being rocked by a multitude of sci-fi anomalies.
Reaction:
Hilarious and inventive. This was definitely made by people who love the franchise, though they're not above pointing out its foibles and inconsistencies.

Trivia:
The holodeck character Badgey is a parody of the unpopular Microsoft Office virtual assistant Clippie, which was introduced in 1997 and discontinued in 2007. Among the items of contraband Mariner reveals is the infamous Spock "space helmet" toy from the 1970s. During the holodeck movie, random scratches can be seen, just like what appears when viewing celluloid movies that have been used extensively. At several points in the episode, a black oval appears in the upper-right corner of the screen. This is a nod to the changeover cues on films, which were black dots in the upper-right corner, notifying projectionists it was time to change reels. (Circular dots were stretched into ovals on widescreen movies.) `~3060~` (Clar) is a veteran of three other ^~trek_tos_1~^~"Star Trek"~^ projects. He played the Federation President in !~trek_06~!~Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991)~!, Thrax in ^~trek_ds9_5~^~Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Things Past (1996)~^ and Annorax in ^~trek_voy_4~^~Star Trek: Voyager: Year Of Hell (1997)~^ and ^~trek_voy_4~^~Star Trek: Voyager: Year Of Hell, Part II (1997)~^. While only playing a small role in this episode, Q (`~2602~`) becomes the first character from a previous incarnation of ^~trek_tos_1~^~"Star Trek"~^ to appear on the series. The freak 'Anthony' resembles the salamander-like creatures Paris and Janeway turn into in the ^~trek_voy_2~^~Star Trek: Voyager episode "Threshold."~^ First appearance of an Edosian since ^~trek_ani~^~Star Trek: The Animated Series (1973)~^. The "historical" image of Kirk and Spock is a still from ^~trek_ani~^~Star Trek: The Animated Series (1973)~^. The stardate (57436.2) places this episode about 2.5 years after Voyager's return to the Alpha Quadrant in ^~trek_voy_7~^~Star Trek: Voyager: Endgame (2001)~^. SPOILER:In the trial by combat scene, Commander Ransom pumps his arms like `~14105~` in !~mi_6~!~Mission Impossible: Fallout~!.:SPOILER Several of the shuttles on the USS Vancouver are named after Vancouver neighbourhoods (Kitsilano, Fairview, Marpole) `~10747~` co-starred in @%Stand By Me%@ with `~2843~` who would play Wesley on ^~trek_tng_1~^~Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987)~^. `~13923~`'s parents are `~4979~` and `~1310~`, whose own careers are more aligned with ^~th_wars_4~^~"Star Wars"~^. Ryan appeared in @%When Harry Met Sally....%@ with `~1598~`, who later wrote @%Postcards from the Edge%@, in which Quaid appeared. They also appeared in the films @%Wyatt Earp%@ and !~french_kiss~!~French Kiss~!, directed by former ^~th_wars_4~^~"Star Wars"~^ writer `~987~`. SPOILER:In the future hologram Boimler is seen with "One of the great birds of the Galaxy." Great bird of the Galaxy is a nick name of `~2846~`, creator of ^~trek_tos_1~^~Star Trek (1966)~^. The term was first heard in the episode ^~trek_tos_1~^~Star Trek: Charlie X~^. :SPOILER Freeman is the first black female Captain to be featured as a regular on a ^~trek_tos_1~^~"Star Trek"~^ series. `~2813~` was inspired to create this show by his experience working on ^~trek_short_1~^~Star Trek: Short Treks (2018)~^. It showed him that there was more than one way to tell a ^~trek_tos_1~^~"Star Trek"~^ story. `~13923~` is a regular on @##The Boys##@, acting alongside `~2414~` and `~2822~`, who were Dr. McCoy and Scotty in the Kelvin ^~trek_tos_1~^~"Star Trek"~^ movies that `~2813~` wrote and also produced. The intro to this series' theme has callbacks to ^~trek_ani~^~Star Trek: The Animated Series (1973)~^, ^~trek_tng_1~^~Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987)~^ and ^~trek_dsc_1~^~Star Trek: Discovery (2017)~^. Ensign Mariner's first name is Beckett, perhaps homage to `~2600~`'s character on @##Quantum Leap##@. Bakula played Captain Archer on ^~trek_ent_1~^~Star Trek Enterprise~^. In an episode of the official ^~trek_tos_1~^~"Star Trek"~^ podcast "The Pod Directive" Tawny Newsome revealed that she thought she was auditioning for a funny side character. It was not until she had landed the part of Beckett Mariner and received the full scripts that she realized she would be the lead. The series starts in the year 2380 in the Prime timeline. The Cerritos is a California class ship with several elements from the Galaxy and Nebula class. It's trimmed in the same mustard-gold colour as the support branch uniforms. Its sister ships are trimmed in the colour of their "specialty"; the USS Merced, for example, is trimmed in blue, referencing its science-oriented assignment. That helps the audience differentiate them on screen. Dawnn Lewis describes her role as almost a dream come true, as she has been an avid fan and regular viewer of the ^~trek_tos_1~^~"Star Trek"~^ franchise since childhood. The first appearance of Beta III and its inhabitants since ^~trek_tos_1~^~Star Trek: The Original Series: The Return of the Archons (1967)~^. This series shares its name with an episode of ^~trek_tng_7~^~"Star Trek: The Next Generation" ("Lower Decks")~^. It also focused on the lives of junior officers. SPOILER:When Riker appears on the bridge at the end and says he had been on the holodeck watching "...the first Enterprise. You know...Archer and those guys?" it's a callback to ^~trek_ent_4~^~Star Trek: Enterprise: These Are the Voyages... (2005)~^ where he was doing the exact same thing. He also makes reference to the words of the ^~trek_ent_1~^~"Enterprise"~^ theme song.:SPOILER The episode credits are in the same font as was used in ^~trek_tng_1~^~Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987)~^. This is the first entirely animated ^~trek_tos_1~^~"Star Trek"~^ series since ^~trek_ani~^~Star Trek: The Animated Series (1973)~^ ended 46 years earlier. In the interim, ^~trek_short_1~^~Star Trek: Short Treks (2018)~^ produced two animated episodes in 2019. Tawny Newsome said in an interview with `~2843~` that one of the few things her parents had in common was ^~trek_tos_1~^~"Star Trek"~^ and because of her childhood experiences with the series, there was no other franchise she'd rather be a part of. She was also influenced by the positive portrayal of the black father and son on screen in ^~trek_ds9_1~^~Star Trek Deep Space Nine (1993)~^. Ensign Peanut Hamper is an exocomp, a sentient artificial lifeform first seen in ^~trek_tng_6~^~Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Quality of Life (1992)~^.
