Synopsis:
A petroleum exploration expedition comes to an isolated island and encounters a colossal giant gorilla.
Reaction:
Not terrible, but it kinda leaves me feeling ... icky. Well made, for the most part, though. It's just a bit off-putting in the end.

Trivia:
The tabloids speculated at the time that `~7467~` and `~7832~` had an on-set affair. It was later revealed to be false, both stars were happily married, and have been friends since making this film. In addition to the 40-foot mechanical Kong, and the full-sized mechanical hands, `~Carlo Rambaldi~` constructed a separate pair of full-sized legs (used in the scenes of Dwan in the oil tanker, SPOILER:Fred Wilson's demise,:SPOILER and the climax SPOILER:atop the World Trade Center:SPOILER), and a full-size non-mechanical styrofoam Kong seen at the end of the film, SPOILER:lying on the shattered pavement:SPOILER. The special achievement academy award presented by the Board of Governors at the 1977 Oscars, was very hotly disputed - with several board members resigning in protest when the decision was taken. Employees of the Empire State Building expressed their displeasure at the producers' decision to stage the remake's climax at the World Trade Center by picketing the 102nd floor of the Empire State Building dressed in monkey suits. `~Roman Polanski~`, `~Michael Winner~`, and `~Sam Peckinpah~` were offered the chance to direct, but all turned it down. `~943~` was also considered to direct. Hammer had also intended to remake the movie a few years earlier, but it was scrapped after a few test reels were shot. However, some of the Hammer footage was used in a Volkswagen commercial. Universal had originally planned to make a more faithful remake of !~kong_1933~!~7830~! to be entitled @%The Legend of `~7830~`%@, which was going to be a period piece set in the 1930s. However, they backed out when this modern remake was announced. When `~7832~`'s character Dwan first appears in the film she is in a rubber dinghy floating towards the Petrox explorer. She was later told by her make-up assistant that a shark had been seen near her dinghy when she was in it. `~Barbra Streisand~` was considered for the part of Dwan. `~Bo Derek~` was offered the role of Dwan but turned it down. According to her autobiography `~14320~` was approached by `~Dino De Laurentiis~` for the role of Dwan but turned him down. In a 2008 interview with `~David Letterman~`, `~15508~` revealed that she auditioned for the role of Dwan but was turned down by `~Dino De Laurentiis~` as being 'ugly'. He did this in Italian not knowing that `~15508~` understood Italian.
