Synopsis:
An orphan girl, sent to an elderly brother and sister by mistake, charms her new home and community with her fiery spirit and imagination.
Reaction:
A great film for the family to watch together. Sometimes (read, almost always) Anne gets a bit too poetic for her own good, but she remains lovable.

Trivia:
`~Katharine Hepburn~` was originally approached to play Marilla Cuthbert. She declined, but suggested her relative (great-niece), `~14522~` for the role of Anne. `~14518~` grew up on Prince Edward Island. The orphanage director, Mrs. Cadbury, is actually `~7077~` mother, `~14533~`. The scene in the kitchen in which Anne tells Marilla she will apologize to Mrs. Lynde was shot with a body double for `~14519~` as his schedule could not permit him to be there. All close-up shots were filmed later. This movie was the subject of long-running legal disputes between producer `~14514~` and the heirs of Anne author `~14517~`. Ultimately, Canadian courts agreed with the heirs that Sullivan had withheld from the heirs contractually promised profits from the first two films in the series (~!green_gables_1~!~Anne of Green Gables~! and ~!green_gables_2~!~Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel~!), and the courts also found groundless Sullivan's $55-million defamation suit against the heirs. `~14522~` auditioned for the role of Anne Shirley before she was eventually cast as Diana Barry. A lot of the scenes, mainly long shots, were made before any of the characters were cast. The scene where Mrs. Hammond brings Anne to the orphanage was done last. `~7077~` beat out 3,000 girls for the role of Anne Shirley. The scene where Anne and Marilla are walking back from Mrs. Lynde's after Anne's theatrical apology was the very first to be filmed.
