Random Trivia For This Title:

  • The Pants Alternative: Sheldon claims that the X-Men are named for the X in Professor Charles Xavier. However this is not true, as the X actually stands for the mutant X gene which separates them as a species and gives them their powers.
  • The Electric Can Opener Fluctuation: In the commentary for this episode on the DVD release, the actors actually grew real beards for filming, but they were told to shave them so that the make-up department could put fake ones on. It is never stated why this decision was made.
  • In fall 2010 Kaley Cuoco revealed to CBS's Watch! Magazine's Behind the Scenes (2008) that she and her co-star and love interest Johnny Galecki had secretly dated for two years earlier in the run of the show, but they were no longer together.
  • The Creepy Candy Coating Corollary: Melissa Rauch uses her natural speaking voice in this episode. After several appearances, Rauch uses what she said is an imitation of her mother's high-pitched voice.
  • The Adhesive Duck Deficiency: In this episode, Kunal Nayyar displayed his ear for accents when he accurately imitated costars Johnny Galecki's and Simon Helberg's American accents.
  • The Adhesive Duck Deficiency: Sheldon (Jim Parsons) objects to Penny (Kaley Cuoco) saying "Warp speed, Mr. Spock!" because Sulu was normally the Enterprise helmsman and not Spock. Apparently, Sheldon never saw the episode [Miri], in which Spock is given the order for warp speed so that the extra playing the helmsman would not have to be paid for a speaking line.
  • The Vengeance Formulation: Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) seems much dumber than normal in this appearance. She later claims that she was playing dumb during their initial dates so Howard (Simon Helberg) wouldn't be scared away by her being smarter than him.
  • The Maternal Congruence: In the beginning of this episode Penny (Kaley Cuoco), Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Sheldon (Jim Parsons) are watching How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Christine Baranski plays a role in this movie, and in the Big Bang Theory she acts as Leonard's mother.
  • The Vengeance Formulation: When Kripke (John Ross Bowie) pipes helium into Sheldon (Jim Parsons)'s office, he also pipes in oxygen (the green tank) as a scientist he is doing this to prevent a dangerously low level of oxygen but to still create the voice change of a low viscosity gas being.
  • The Bozeman Reaction: The movie Star Trek: First Contact established Bozeman, Montana as the site of first contact between Vulcans and humans. Given Sheldon's fascination for [Star Trek] in general and Mr. Spock in particular makes this look like an obvious choice for his relocation.
