Random Trivia For This Title:

  • The Luminous Fish Effect: Sheldon points out that tomatoes are shelved among vegetables but are actually fruits. True but trite, this issue was debated before the US Supreme Court in 1893. Because tomatoes are generally used in entrees or side dishes and seldom used in deserts, they were deemed vegetables for the purpose of import taxes. But, eggplants, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, okra, bell peppers, and green beans are also fruiting bodies that are considered vegetables.
  • The Pork Chop Indeterminacy: Missy (Courtney Henggeler) and Sheldon (Jim Parsons) are twins, but in real life the actress who plays Missy (Courtney Henggeler) is 8 years younger.
  • The Cooper-Hofstadter Polarization: As Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and Sheldon (Jim Parsons) are walking up the stairs, and they discuss Sheldon's disagreement with Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Penny asks Sheldon "How do you feel?". Sheldon looks a bit confused and states "I do not understand the question". This is in homage to Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, the computer used to retrain Spock's mind asks him the exact same question ("How do you feel"), which Spock likewise responds "I do not understand the question".
  • The Dumpling Paradox: As Chen (the waiter at the Chinese restaurant) leaves Sheldon (Jim Parsons), Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Raj (Kunal Nayyar)'s table, he mutters "Young idiot" under his breath in Cantonese.
  • The Middle Earth Paradigm: Penny (Kaley Cuoco) has an Asian letter tattooed on her lower back. It can be seen as she is leaving Leonard (Johnny Galecki)'s apartment.
  • The Hamburger Postulate: Johnny Galecki (Leonard) knows how to play the cello in real life.
  • Chuck Lorre stated in an interview that Penny (Kaley Cuoco)'s surname is Barrington, the reason is yet to be revealed.
  • The Luminous Fish Effect: When Mary Cooper (Laurie Metcalf) introduces herself as "Sheldon's mother" to Dr. Eric Gablehauser (Mark Harelik), Sheldon (Jim Parsons)'s boss, he says that's impossible and that she must've had Sheldon when she was a teenager. Laurie Metcalf is 17 years older than Jim Parsons.
  • Pilot: This is the only episode in the series whose title does not refer to a scientific theory or phenomenon.
  • All of the boys are interested in things like [Star Wars] and [Star Trek], but they aren't huge fans of either of them in real-life.
