Random Trivia For This Title:

  • Steve Carell said that this movie may be his last as the voice of Gru. However, Carell stated that if he was asked to do a cameo in any future Minion sequels, he happily would. In Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022), Carell was confirmed to reprise his role as Gru.
  • Agnes' voice actress Elsie Fisher from the first and second movies was replaced by Nev Scharrel, due to Fisher getting too old for the role.
  • The country in which Dru lives and from which Gru originates is the fictional European country of Freedonia. This is the same name as a similar fictional European country in The Marx Brothers' movie Duck Soup (1933). The name of the diamond Bratt tries to steal is the Dumont Diamond, named after [?] Margaret Dumont, who appeared in several Marx Brothers movies, including Duck Soup (1933).
  • Trey Parker stated that his daughter was a key factor in his decision to take the role of Balthazar Bratt. He said that she was almost two at the time and he thought it would be cool for her to "actually watch something I've done." Parker is best know as co-Creator of [South Park (1997)], with partner [?] Matt Stone.
  • Steve Carell, Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier, and Pierre Coffin are the only ones to reprise their roles in all three movies. However, along with said characters, Kristen Wiig is also one of the few actresses to be in all three movies, as she voiced Miss Hattie in Despicable Me (2010).
  • Gru's visual appearance was based on Christopher Lloyd's Fester Addams in The Addams Family (1991), while Dru's visual appearance was based on Lloyd's Fester Addams in Addams Family Values (1993).
  • Vector, from Despicable Me (2010), is briefly mentioned after he's been stranded on the moon at the end of the first movie. According to the Anti-Villain League's profile on him, he's still alive on the moon and can be seen through telescopes as a tiny orange dot.
  • John Cena, Ty Burrell, Ed Helms, Ed O'Neill, Josh Gad, Bill Hader, Danny McBride, Steve Zahn, Andy Samberg, Ashton Kutcher, Will Forte, Diedrich Bader, Bruce Willis, Alan Tudyk, and John Malkovich were considered for the role of Balthazar Bratt.
  • The sequence with Balthazar Bratt (Trey Parker) attempting to steal the diamond is set to the Michael Jackson song "Bad". The next time we see Bratt, he is wearing a massive fat suit, similar to the one "Weird Al" Yankovic wore in the music video for his parody version of the same song ("Fat").
  • The cast includes one Academy Award winner: Dame Julie Andrews; and five Academy Award nominees: Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Trey Parker, Steve Coogan, and Pierre Coffin.
  • Idina Menzel was considered for the role of Valerie Da Vinci.
  • It's Trey Parker (Balthazar Bratt) who sings Hug Me with Pharrell Williams during the end credits.
  • Mel the minion is bald on top, with hair around the back and sides. Considering the producers' interest in the 1960s, as seen in Minions (2015), it is likely that this Minion was named after the similarly balding character Mel Cooley (Richard Deacon) from [The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961)].
  • When Lucy uses a helicopter to rescue Gru, Dru, and the diamond from Balthazar Bratt's lair, this is possibly a reference to The Beatles' song "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds".
