Trivia that mentions this person:
Die Hard [1988]
  • Alan Rickman's feature film debut.
  • For Alan Rickman's death plunge down the side of the skyscraper, Rickman actually dropped onto an airbag against a green screen. Director John McTiernan had to jump first to convince Rickman to do it. For the actual shot, Rickman was holding on to a stunt man before falling onto the air bag. To get the right reaction, the stunt man dropped Rickman on the count of two, not three.
  • The scene in which Gruber and McClane meet was inserted in to the script after Alan Rickman (Hans Gruber) was found to be proficient at mimicking American accents. The filmmakers had been looking for a way to have the two characters meet prior to the climax and capitalized on Rickman's talent.
Die Hard: With a Vengeance [1995]
  • When posing as a city engineer, Simon Gruber (Jeremy Irons) uses a heavy American accent to fool his adversaries. The same trick was used by his brother Hans (Alan Rickman) in Die Hard.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 [2011]
  • In the book, Snape's (Alan Rickman) death originally takes place at the Shrieking Shack, but art directors suggested and moved the location (with J.K. Rowling's agreement) to the boathouse in order to make it more dramatic and poignant. One of the art directors, [?] Andrew Ackland-Snow added, "We wanted to get him out from, not a conventional interior, but from that kind of box, to do it in a more dramatic atmosphere."
  • Alan Rickman, Bonnie Wright, Devon Murray, Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, Geraldine Somerville, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Matthew Lewis, Robbie Coltrane, Rupert Grint, Tom Felton, Josh Herdman and Warwick Davis (as Prof. Flitwick and/or Griphook the Goblin) are the only actors to have appeared in all eight movies.
  • Not long after Alan Rickman started to play Severus Snape, J.K. Rowling told him some character secrets about Snape that would not be otherwise revealed until the last book. Most significantly, Rickman was one of the very few people other than Rowling to know (years ahead of the last book's publication) that Snape had been in love with Lily Evans (later Potter) when they were students at Hogwarts, and both Snape's protection of and antagonism toward Harry came from that. Rowling said that she shared this information with Rickman because "he needed to understand, I think, and does completely understand and did completely understand where this bitterness towards this boy, who's living proof of Lily's preference for another man, came from." According to Rickman, the directors prior to the publication of the last book were not privy to the information of Snape's true character either, and he had to ask them to defer to him on the portrayal of Snape, whether or not they understood why.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince [2009]
  • Dumbledore's fall from the tower filled Alan Rickman with nostalgic glee, as it harked back to his first hit Die Hard, where his character fell from a tall building. Rickman felt at least "he was on the other end in this film!"
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone [2001]
  • Alan Rickman was hand-picked to play Snape by J.K. Rowling.
    The Muppets [2011]
  • The role of Tex Richman was actually written for Alan Rickman.
    Into the Woods [2014]
  • In earlier drafts, the essential Narrator character from the original stage musical was still part of the story. Before the role was written out of the script, many actors were either considered, in talks, or asked to play the role including Jeremy Irons, Christopher Plummer, Geoffrey Rush, James Earl Jones, John Cleese, Michael Caine, Michael Gambon, and Alan Rickman. There were even rumors about giving this role to a female such as Julie Andrews or Angela Lansbury who are both Disney favorites as well as experts on Stephen Sondheim's material.
    Alice in Wonderland [2010]
  • Stephen Fry, Alan Rickman, Barbara Windsor, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, Imelda Staunton, and Jim Carter all recorded their dialogue in one day.
  • Alan Rickman was originally going to have his face composited onto the animated Caterpillar Absolem. He was filmed recording his voice in the studio, but the idea was eventually scrapped. The animators did, however, try to give Absolem's face characteristics similar to Rickman's.
  • This movie unites several actors from the [Harry Potter] film series, including Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange), Alan Rickman (Severus Snape), Paul Whitehouse (Sir Cadogan), Timothy Spall (Peter Pettigrew), Frances de la Tour (Madame Maxime), and Imelda Staunton (Dolores Umbridge).
Alice Through the Looking Glass [2016]
  • Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Timothy Spall have all starred alongside each other in one of Tim Burton's other films, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
  • Toby Jones, Helena Bonham Carter, Timothy Spall, Frances de la Tour, Rhys Ifans, and Alan Rickman were all part of the [Harry Potter] movies.
  • This is Alan Rickman and Helena Bonham Carter's eighth and final film together.
  • Alan Rickman's last film. He died four months before the film's release. The film is dedicated to his memory. His final non-voice acting role was in Eye in the Sky (2015), which was released before he died.
Robin Hood: Men in Tights [1993]
  • Throughout the movie, a mole on the face of Prince John (Richard Lewis) changes position: it starts on his left cheek, then to his chin, his lip, his right cheek, and finally his forehead. This lampoons the mole on Alan Rickman's face in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. It's also a nod to the famous "I-gor's hump" gag from Young Frankenstein.
    Quigley Down Under [1990]
  • Alan Rickman decided to take the part because filming was taking place in Australia. He always wanted to visit Australia.
    Ice Age [2002]
  • Christopher Walken, Alan Rickman, Sam Elliott, James Gandolfini, Patrick Stewart & Michael Wincott were all considered for the role of Soto before Goran Visnjic was cast.
    Corpse Bride [2005]
  • Alan Rickman & Kevin Spacey were considered for the voice of Barkis Bittern.
