Elfman was originally apprehensive, having no formal music training, but he was assisted by Boingo guitarist [?] Steve Bartek as orchestrator. Elfman later said that hearing his music performed by an orchestra for the first time was one of the most thrilling experiences of his life.
    9 [2009]
  • Being a Tim Burton production, some of his trademarks have made it into the film. The themes of outsiders or the alienated triumphing over adversity. Some of his design schemes are present like stripes. The funeral scene looks very similar to the one in Burton's Batman Returns. And people who've worked with Burton helped make the film, like Martin Landau. The film was also co-composed by Burton's frequent composer Danny Elfman.
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children [2016]
  • The first film since Big Eyes where Burton didn't use Johnny Depp or Helena Bonham Carter, in addition to the above not using Danny Elfman. Elfman was unable to score this film due to scheduling conflicts with Alice Through the Looking Glass. This makes Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children the third Tim Burton film not scored by Danny Elfman. The first being Ed Wood and the second being Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
Oz the Great and Powerful [2013]
  • Director Sam Raimi and composer Danny Elfman had a major falling out during the post-production of Spider-Man 2, with Elfman stating that they would never work together again. With this film, they were able to patch things up and reconcile.
Alice Through the Looking Glass [2016]
  • This film marks Tim Burton and Danny Elfman's 17th film, this is also the 2nd time Burton Produced a film with Danny Elfman doing the score, the first one was The Nightmare Before Christmas.

    Dick Tracy [1990]
  • Danny Elfman was hired to compose the film score because Warren Beatty was impressed with his work on Batman. Of working with Beatty, Elfman has said "Warren was insane".
    Justice League [2017]
  • Director Zack Snyder and his wife producer [?] Deborah Snyder stepped down from finishing the film, after the suicide of Zack Snyder's daughter in March 2017. They tried to remain on the film as a way to work through the difficulty, but decided after two months to step away from the project to spend time with their family. Joss Whedon, who had signed on for Batgirl, took over as director, managing additional scenes that need to be included in the final cut. Warner Brothers stated that Joss would direct and write in the same style as Zack so there wouldn't be any tonal shifts or obvious changes in style. However, Joss Whedon controversially fired Zack Snyder's composer Junkie XL, and replaced him with Danny Elfman.
  • In one scene, Alfred (Jeremy Irons) says to Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck), "One misses the days when one's biggest concerns were exploding wind-up penguins." This is a reference to Batman Returns, where Batman (Michael Keaton) goes up against Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer) and the Penguin (Danny DeVito) who had an army of penguins wearing exploding rockets with a plot to destroy Gotham City. The composer of Justice League, Danny Elfman, also composed the original Batman & Batman Returns musical scores and he utilizes parts of them in this film.
  • This is Danny Elfman's twelfth time scoring a superhero film, after working on Tim Burton's Batman films, Barry Sonnenfeld's Men in Black films, Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films, Hulk, Wanted, Hellboy II: The Golden Army and Avengers: Age of Ultron.
    Corpse Bride [2005]
  • Composer Danny Elfman originally wrote the part of Bonejangles, looking for another musician to sing it, but after failing to find a voice that fit, director Tim Burton asked Elfman if he would sing it. The result was so brutal on his vocal chords that Elfman was left hoarse whenever he had to voice the character.
