    The Suicide Squad [2021]
  • Margot Robbie wears a new costume that features Harley's traditional red and black color palette, with James Gunn taking inspiration from the character's costume in the video game {Batman: Arkham City}. He wanted her jacket to have "motorcycle gang style"-writing on the back, and chose "Live fast, die clown" over other potential options "Clown AF" and "World's Best Grandpa". Gunn also removed Harley's "Rotten" facial tattoo from previous DC films because both he and Robbie disliked it.
  • Margot Robbie said she would play Harley Quinn for as long as possible, as she loved playing her in the DC Extended Universe.
  • Harley Quinn kills one of her captors and then uses her bare feet to snatch the keys from his body before proceeding to unlock the handcuffs above her head with her feet. Margot Robbie did the stunt herself without using a stunt double. Director James Gunn praised Robbie for executing the trick herself, confirming that she facilitated her own escape in the scene rather than having a stunt double step in. The director shared his disappointment over the fact that Robbie's costume covers her face during one of the pivotal moments in the trick, so it isn't obvious that she's responsible for it. Gunn states, "[Robbie] is like a human Swiss army knife, and watching this scene with her flipping backward was just beyond incredible." He goes on to express, "I was so happy that it worked and I was mesmerized by it and then I got into the editing room with the footage and [she] has a cuff on [her] outfit that covers her face so it looks like it's a stunt person. It's my biggest regret."
  • Many of the film's actors, including Margot Robbie and Idris Elba, were drawn to the film once James Gunn was attached to direct. John Cena accepted without even letting Gunn finish to explain what kind of project he was cast in. Pete Davidson, meanwhile, agreed as soon as he learned that he was being asked to play a sadsack D-list villain with the civilian name Dick Hertz.
  • Margot Robbie shared what to expect from the upcoming return on the character: "One of the first things I said to James was, I think Harley is a catalyst of chaos. She's not necessarily your narrative center, and sometimes it's great when plot points can rest on other characters' shoulders, and she can be the thing that erupts a whole sequence of events. That's something I felt he agreed with, based on what I was reading in the script." She continued to tease her return as Harley with these words: "[In terms of] how she's changed, it's just always interesting to explore what characteristics different directors gravitate towards from the character. The common denominator is the source material, which is what I always built the character off anyway. Then she evolves in different ways under different people's direction."
